Find us at the Adams County Sheriff’s Headquarters in Brighton, CO. All certified VIN inspections are conducted by appointment at this location — come prepared with the required documents.

Inspection Requirements
Before arriving for your inspection, make sure to:
- Bring all required documents
- Ensure your vehicle arrives under its own power
- No trailers, commercial, or recreational vehicles
- Only passenger cars and trucks are eligible
Additional Notes:
- Be on time and have documents ready.
- The process takes place in person at the provided address.
Make Sure Your Vehicle is Roadworthy
To pass VIN inspection, your vehicle must be deemed roadworthy. This means that the vehicle must have sufficient power, have all major parts and systems permanently attached and functioning, and shall not be repaired in such a manner as to make the vehicle unsafe.
Below we have provided a checklist for you to review before coming to your inspection appointment:
- Public VIN is easily readable through windshield
- Windshield has no cracks
- Mirrors are clear and free of cracks
- ABS & Airbag dashboard lights must flicker on and off when starting up car. If either doesn’t turn on or stays on, then something is wrong and needs to get fixed
- Horn honks
- Wipers (front and back) work
- Headlights, high beams, signals, taillights, brake lights, and license plate lights are required
- All turn signals and brake lights work
- One white light above rear license plate
- Tires are DOT with good tread (must have a minimum of 2/32 tread depth)
- All parts are permanently attached by welding, brackets, or bolts
- Seat(s) are permanently attached
- No torn or jagged metal
- For salvage vehicles
- “Rebuilt from Salvage” dye cast stamped on vehicles inner “B” pillar near door latch
- Receipts for repairs and fixes that make the car roadworthy are REQUIRED to be show at your inspection
If you are bringing a motorcycle for an inspection, review this checklist before your appointment:
- Motorcycle is equipped with at least one and not more than two head lamps
- Tail lamp on rear shall emit red light visible from a distance of 500 feet
- Brake light works
- Horn honks
- Muffler adequately prevents excessive noise
- Mirror are clear and free of cracks
- Tires are marked DOT on road-use
- All original safety equipment must be in proper working condition
