Adams County, Colo. (December 1, 2024): Deputies were called to a residence on the 7600 block of Heather Pl. at 4:42 PM last night for a Check Well Being on an adult male. A reporting party told 911 dispatch that the male to be checked on was possibly suicidal and had access to weapons inside the residence.

The deputies arrived and called into the residence to contact the male and check on him for several minutes. At 5:20 PM, deputies aired to dispatch that shots were fired.

Preliminary information indicates that shots were fired by several deputies when the adult male displayed an axe or similar style weapon while approaching deputies who gave him several verbal commands for the male to “drop the axe.” After the shooting, medical personnel treated the male, who was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is currently investigating the incident.

The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure. Any changes to their status will be determined after the investigation is completed.
