Quick coordination between Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Texas authorities led to the safe recovery of two children and the arrest of their mother

BRIGHTON, Colo. (Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025) – Adams County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Detectives responded to a parental abduction call in the 8600 block of Faraday St on Saturday, Oct. 25.  The guardian for two children reported a 13-year-old male and an 11-year-old female, were taken by their mother, Magali Mejia Sanchez, 31.

Mejia Sanchez was restrained from contact with the children and could only have supervised visits with them. Mejia Sanchez told the guardian she was taking the kids to Mexico.  ACSO Deputies and Detectives launched an immediate investigation and attempted to locate the children.

During the investigation, it was discovered Mejia Sanchez and the children were in Texas.  Detectives quickly coordinated with law enforcement in Texas and a statewide Amber Alert was issued.  Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Mejia Sanchez.

At around 2 a.m. MDT, Fredericksburg Police in Gillespie County, Texas located the children and arrested Mejia Sanchez without incident.  The children were found safe.  Coordination is on-going to reunite the children with their guardian.

Mejia Sanchez was arrested for the violation of the protection order (Class 1 Misdemeanor).

Charges are mere accusations and suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
