FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – July 17, 2025

Adams County, Colo. (July 17, 2025): On April 22, 2025, it was discovered that controlled substances were brought into secure areas of the Adams County Detention Facility.

An investigation was initiated, and it was determined that a nurse, Ashley Ryan—employed by a contracted medical provider—was allegedly introducing the contraband into the facility. A few weeks into the investigation, the medical provider dismissed Ryan’s employment. Additional contraband was reportedly found on her person at that time.

Ashley Ryan was later arrested in Texas and is awaiting extradition to Colorado for court proceedings.

Through the investigation, additional suspects were identified. Shayleen Abeyta was also arrested in connection with the case for allegedly providing the narcotics to Ryan.
